This deal was finalized a couple of weeks ago, but the station just went live on DIRECTV NOW for the first time today.
The process of bringing a new local market channel live on streaming services only begins once the deal is signed. Their are numerous technical and hardware requirements involved in feeding the channel into the streaming services digital network and into the homes of the affiliate’s local coverage area.
Residents of Birmingham now have access to NBC and ABC on DIRECTV NOW as well as NBC and FOX on YouTube TV. As we recently reported, Google is working on making YouTube TV accessible to more devices before the end of the year.
We have also learned that the Raycom media, who owns the Birmingham FOX affiliate WBRC 6, has signed an agreement with DIRECTV NOW to bring WBRC Fox 6 to DIRECTV NOW subscribers in the Birmingham area. The service is expected to go live any day now.
