DIRECTV NOW (@directvnow) today updated their live TV pause feature. Prior to today, you could pause live TV for up to 10 seconds. Beyond that, clicking play would simply take you to the live stream. However, as of today, you can pause the program indefinitely (up to an undetermined buffer duration) and then click play to resume the program at the point where you left off.
This appears to be a pre-cursor for the introduction of the Cloud DVR functionality that we expect to be rolled out before the end of this year.
I expect to be testing out the Cloud DVR on all of our test devices once its rolled out and look for some videos and first impressions to roll in once we have that in house.
These features are a long time coming, especially considering that all of the major competitors have had DVR features for some time now. Still, kudos to the DTVN engineers for continuing to update the service and enhance usability for its users.
Along with the Cloud DVR rollout, we are hoping (and expecting), that the video transport controls will be improved as well. The DIRECTV NOW onscreen icons required for FF/RW are cumbersome and unnecessary. They are especially awkward for Apple TV users with the Siri Remote swipe pad.
