Amazon’s Alexa Voice Control Extended to More Streaming Apps

CBS, NBC, Hulu, Showtime and PlayStation Vue apps can now be controlled by Amazon Alexa

Streambuzz has learned that Amazon Alexa support continues its march into the living room. According to Heather Dawson, a Fire TV marketing manager, with the latest versions of supported apps from Bravo, CBS, Hulu, NBC, SHOWTIME, and Sony PlayStation Vue, you can use your voice to search, control playback, and even change the channel within the apps with Amazon Alexa.

As we recently reported in separate stories, Sony and Sonos announced that they had integrated Alexa support into their apps. In the case of Sony, control and playback of the Playstation Vue app. For Sonos, control and playback of their excellent “Play” series of voice enabled speakers.

With the help of Alexa, for example, if you’re subscribed to Live TV on Hulu and have the latest version of the app installed on your Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, or Fire TV Edition television, you can now say “Alexa, go to ESPN” to go directly to the ESPN channel within the Hulu app. Rewind by saying “Alexa, rewind 5 minutes”, or pause playback by saying “Alexa, pause”.
